Once Upon a Christmas Wedding (2)

This is for the fact that I finished this Monster of a book. One of the happiest moments of my life. I can't even....

Once Upon a Christmas Wedding (3)

It was for A CAUSE! FOR A CHALLENGE AND FOR TEAM SPIRIT, which is a wonderful, uplifting thing - everything this collection of silly, dull, irritating Christmas Regency novellas was not.

And why Regency? Your guess is as good as mine... though ... wait, someone mentioned "Wellington" a few times, so I guess that's confirmed.

Ms Grinch & Ms Ebenezer Scrooge were my reading companions & never left the whole time I was reading. There were 1 or 2 stories that were simply bland as opposed to silly and dull, but that's the most I can say of them.

Once Upon a Christmas Wedding (4) .

So, now onto some other reading that may help to restore my faith in Christmas. :)

A brilliantly written Christmas novella, I really enjoyed reading this.

Vincent is a Duke newly minted, heā€™s fulfilling his duties to pay his brother debts , that means marrying wether he wants to or not.

Lila hates her father , heā€™s cruel, aggressive and violent.
If she can do anything to escape him , thatā€™s her best option , then she can rescue her sister .
That means when sheā€™s pushed into a hasty marriage she goes.
She has no other option.

Both these to are bound by their predicaments to see the marriage through , within days they are bound by their hearts .
M
Beautiful, a story of hope and love , with a Darkside that has to be overcome.
Annabelle does this so well , the story ties up all the way through and gives you that sense of achievement and hopefulness , that there is always a silver lining to the darkest cloud.

Stunned by the arrival of a fine lady who looks like a Christmas angel, Ned canā€™t help but wonder if all his Christmases have come at onceā€¦

My review :
When a farmer finds at his doorstep a runaway miss, estranged from everyone, which road will they choose.

It was such a lovely tale, with an unusual hero.
I love when historical fiction mixes with commoners.
Edward Hardy or Ned is no rake nor gentleman but at heart he is better than those above him on station.
When a Miss knocks at his door, he welcomes her and proposes a way to save herself from her predicament. When it might not be the best idea for a man who longs for a loving companion.
He has so much love in him only waiting for the right recipient to cross his road.
Grace Honeyfield is running from her past, refusing the future sets by her brother. For a young woman abused, she is no weak miss and cleverly she found a way to escape. But will it be enough. Luckily for her to stumble on Nedā€™s doorway.
For a young miss, she is willing to learn and accepts her lacking to correct them and even improve them.

Blurb :
Lady Lilaā€™s father would have her be a duch*ess at all costs, even if her groom must be blackmailed into saying his vows.
The Duke of Pemberth only seeks to maintain his honor but finds himself falling for his Christmas bride. Can two hearts overcome a marriage built upon deceit or is their love forever doomed by the lies of the past?

My review :

What two persons are up to do when at the wrong end of a bargain, willing it to succeed or letting things go...

For short fast-paced tale, it was loaded with a wide range of emotions, sadness, betrayal, deceit but also love and hope.
Lila has never had an easily life with the evil masquerading as her father. She knows his appearance is all for show, behind hides a monster.
Why once she, with no other option, is so adamant to make her marriage a success. And she is confident she can, now she has seen her new husband as the good man he is.
Vincent never wanted to be a duke, it was his older brotherā€™s job. Now he is drowning under his duty, and if it was not enough, he must fulfill a debt of honor.
And his new bride is not what he expected, she is so far and so close of the best incarnation he could have dreamed.
Of course, not everything will go smoothly when treachery and deception are in line.
But Lila and Vincent are straightforward persons, they are able to accept their flaws, they are far from perfect, why they understand the other. Once tempers quiet, they will see both point of views and recognize their mistakes.
In so few pages. Mrs Anders has whip up a delicious narrative of forgiveness and resilience.

Blurb

Four falling turds, three French hens, two curdled loves, and a duke (in a pear tree)...

She gets a second chance at love for Christmasā€”all she has to do is rob a duke.
Her fall from grace leaves Katherine Blake dirt poor and friendless but for a stray dog. Some Christmas this will be: she cannot even pay the rent. Robbery is a desperate scheme, but then the blasted Duke of Foxleigh shows up to ruin her life all over againā€¦

My review :

When facing the last throw in her destitute life, a woman is reunited with her past love ...

Mrs Tessa Candle has a knack in mixing silly elements to built a sweet and fun tale. Here the heroine is having discussions with a dog, a horse and three hens while at the same time she is a disaster at her new aborted adventure as a highway woman when instead of robbing her expected prey, she rescues him.
Kat learned the hard way how people from the other side of the fence were living, when left destitute she hides herself in the depths of the country under a false name.
Fox too had a hard time when inheriting his title, he learned of of what he thought his father bad investments, but luckily he was proved wrong and now he is head of an immense wealth. But in the process he lost the one woman he loved when she disappeared upon the schemings of a greedy woman.
Their reunion is sweet and funny, up to them to sort everything out, which is not an easy task with all the meddling souls around them.
A fun and fast read.

I was granted by the authors an advance copy but I will purchase my own too.

Blurb :

On the run from an unwanted marriage, Ursula assumes the identity of an etiquette teacher and heads to a remote Scottish castle for the Yuletide season, but her 'young charge' turns out to be more than she bargained for. Texan rancher Rye Dalreagh, the long lost Dunrannoch heir, has been thrown in the deep end. During what should be the merriest of seasons, he must choose a bride, navigate an ancient curse, avoid being murdered, and try not to fall in love with his manners tutor.

My review :

Is playing by the rules, and doing its duty the right thing when love knocks at the door ...

So here it is, I am finally reading Mrs Emmanuelle de Maupassantā€™s work!
And this story does not feel like a novella, it is so dense, I had the feeling to read a full length novel.

While it began as a gothic novel with its bevy of deaths, the story has a light in itself with the two cheerful heroes and the many animals around them.
Why is it so difficult to convey the sentiments a good read brings when I have no problem to point what is wrong others.
I just loved the whole story from the slow setting, with the old curse, to the introduction of the main characters and finally the full plot when they meet, it was a long ride in time and distance.
This was a tale packed with everything to lift your mood, nice characters, funny moments, fanning scenes, heroic actions and so on...
Ursula is a strong woman sets on following her own path and when things do not turn as she expected, she does not bend, she finds an other way.
Rye is such a sweetheart, ready to try to please everyone, until he wonders if he must too set aside his own happiness in the process. He is kind and fun, when he has every right to feel upset having left everything behind.
Together, they make a lovely team taking care of those who canā€™t.
To summarize, I adored this story.

Deerwood's son Graham, Viscount Sherbrooke, intends to stop the mischief but finds himself irresistibly drawn to the scheming minx. Once in close quarters, mistletoe enflames the situation and passion igniteā€¦

My review :

When playing matchmaker for her mother, a young Miss must banter her way with the son of the opposite match ....

Mrs Stacy Reid offers here a light and hot tale of two souls finding the right person in the younger version of its parent.
Callie is a sweet woman who wants to see her mother happy again, why she schemes her union the one man she suspects make her heart beat faster but the son of this same man sees her as an opportunist and tries to unravel her efforts until they find themselves estranged and discover they more than like one another.
Graham is suspicious at Callieā€™s intentions but is also drawn to her, he knows she seeks good but fears his father will find himself trapped in an unwanted union.
Mrs Reid is so talented she gives depth to her characters even in such a short story.
This is a fast paced romance with little angst and a quick resolution.

Hellā€™s Wedding Bells by Annabelle Anders
A very entertaining read. Lady Lila was forced to marry Vincent Saint-Pierre, Duke of Pemberth, sight unseen. Lila cared for her sister and tried to protect her from their ruthless father. This was a story with a lot packed in it. I enjoyed the way Lila and Vincent gradually got to know each other, they shared some very passionate moments too. Vincent is very much a hands-on landlord and likes to work with them in the fields. Lila helps in ways that she has expertise. They are a few secrets to uncover and unexpected events. This was an ideal read for when time is limited.
Once upon a Christmas Wedding by Scarlett Scot
I did enjoy this story about the youngest of the Winter sisters, Beatrix or Bea and her brother, Devā€™s right hand man, Merrick Hart. Bea has been attracted to Merrick for some time but he doesnā€™t appear to reciprocate the feelings. There is a mystery as to where Bea has been disappearing to, at night. Bea has always been quite bold. Bea and Merrick find themselves travelling to the houseparty together. They find themselves in a tricky situation. What will happen if Dev should find out! Iā€™m looking forward to reading about the other sisters in the family.
The Christmas Countess by KJ Jackson.
This story is set in Scotland and concerns Karta and Domnall. They had known each other six years ago but due to misunderstandings they had gone their separate ways. They still had that connection, even though they had changed. They were both likeable characters, there is a villain to contend with and secrets that are uncovered. An enjoyable read.
Mischief and Mistletoe by Stacey Reid
This was an engaging read concerning two families at a house party. Callie was was determined to further the beginnings of a romance between her mother and their host, the Earl of Deerwood. She did tend to say what she thought, as Graham, the earlā€™s son found out, when he spotted her matchmaking. Graham was equally determined to stop this romance. There followed a battle of wills, a rainy interlude that brought changes and an argument between father and son! I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own. However, I did purchased my own copy.
The Ladyā€™s Guide to Mistletoe and Mayhem by Emmanuelle de Maupassant.
Ursula had an unusual childhood, in that she often went to her fatherā€™s factory and studied the bookkeeping. However her uncle had very different views on a womanā€™s place. She escapes to go to her friend, who lives in Scotland. Rye has come to Scotland to accept his inheritance as the Earlā€™s heir. He is a Texan and is much more relaxed about things than his relatives. There are a number of strange happenings at the castle and an attraction between Rye and Ursula develops but Rye is destined to marry one of his cousins. This was an entertaining read.

A Winter Bride

I really enjoyed this short story! It was a very well written book, with main characters you canā€™t help but fall in love with. I donā€™t do ā€œspoilersā€ or post the entire book in review, but I will say Ned and Grace are both haunted by their pasts, but are able to overcome several obstacles, doubts and ideals of society to find the love they both want and truly deserve. I LOVE them!

As usual, Emma Leech will take you on a wonderful journey. Her narratives are so real, itā€™s hard from me to remember Iā€™m reading, not living, the story. I get so emotionally invested in her stories I have to literally pull myself back together when I stop reading. Her books hold me spellbound and I cannot put them down. šŸ˜Š

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys love and romance. I received an advance copy of this book and I am voluntarily submitting this review.

The Mistletoe Mistress by Maddison Michaels

Rated 4.5 Stars

The Mistletoe Mistress was delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The heroine was feisty and ingenious. I simply adored her. While the hero was a grumpy rake with a level of sweetness to him. I loved him. It's novella but it was compact and dealt with quite a lot. This is my first book by this author and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of her work especially about the secondary characters. I definitely recommend this book.

Three down, many more to go!

MISCHIEF AND MISTLETOE Stacy Reid

England, 1822, two weeks before Christmas

Miss Callisto Middleton, Callie, has decided to play matchmaker for her mother, but her carefully laid plans have unexpected results. This is such a charming romance as Callie finds love with Graham George Wynter, Viscount Sherbrooke. The relationship, while it initially happens quickly, is convincingly developed even within the confines of the novella. Stacy Reid uses the timeline to its best advantage without rushing anything. There are two romances, so intimately connected that a conflict arises. Graham is so appealing that, like Callie, I hadn't foreseen any issues, which are cleverly handled.

Callie has such a sunny disposition that I found myself smiling throughout. She is joy personified without being annoying; no wonder Graham cannot resist her! The story flows seamlessly, and the banter between Callie and Graham is particularly delicious. Even though this is a novella, the characters are fully fleshed out, even the secondary ones. I loved the Christmassy atmosphere - subtle but very present and all the period details, particularly the origins of kisses under the mistletoe; check it out! MISCHIEF AND MISTLETOE is a short but sweet Christmas romance guaranteed to make you happy!

THE LADY'S GUIDE TO MISTLETOE AND MAYHEM by Emmanuelle de Maupassant

If you love historical romance, you need to read this story; this rather long novella is simply stunning! Set for the most part in 1905 in England, San Antonio, Texas, and Scotland, THE LADY'S GUIDE TO MISTLETOE AND MAYHEM has everything: cows, a horse, a cat, a mouse even - the latter which provoked snorts and laughs. There is a mystery - which is cleverly resolved!, a haunted house (maybe?), Christmas festivities, and a gorgeous romance.

The characters are fabulous all around and Rye and Ursula, our couple, are terrific. She's resourceful and independent; he's a sexy and honourable gentleman; they are perfectly suited to each other. There are only a few typos, the writing is positively spectacular, the banter utterly delightful, and the vivid descriptions make everything and everyone come to life. This is a truly terrific story!

WEDDED IN WINTER by Scarlett Scott

Scarlett Scott's magnificent, lush, luminous prose left me nearly speechless! What a joy to discover such a brilliant author!

WEDDED IN WINTER is a frothy, flirty, delectable Regency romance that flows like weightless silk and delicate lace. Merrick and Beatrix are delightful, charming, utterly irresistible, and so perfect for each other that I read in giddy anticipation to see them together forever. The novella is angst-free, filled with such playful and witty banter that I laughed out loud several times; Bea is priceless, and Merrick entertainingly very chivalrous. The sexual tension between Merrick and Beatrix jumps off the page; it's all subtle sensuality, and it's perfectly delicious.

But dear readers, the writing! Oh, the writing! It is dazzling, spectacular, marvellous, sublime, divine... This is a book that needs to be savoured like the most delicate and rare sweets. Scarlett Scott writes so incredibly well that I believe she could write an entire romance novel out of a phone book entry because of her extraordinary ability to make her characters come to life (Dev! I swear, his power is so evident that I think I shrank back from my ereader a little!) and describe the most mundane details with such clarity and precision, and the sheer beauty of her written words.

I'm in love!

All the stories in this book are excellent, but with 27 stories, more than 3000 pages, this book is long. It took me almost 3 months to read it (after about 1/3 of the book, I'd read a few of stories in between reading other books). If you love historical romance, this book would be a great way to get introduced to new authors, but I don't think it's available anymore.

Not my cup of tea ultimately...

HELLā€™S WEDDING BELLS

Bad soap opera. Didnā€™t like it, *

A WICKED WEDDING

Not bad. ***

Scenery does not ā€œwhiskā€ *sigh* Disjointed and too many words that donā€™t exist or are misused in some way. Very annoying. *

If not for numerous missing words, spelling mistakes and typos, this wouldnā€™t be half bad. I canā€™t see this was even proof-read, never mind editedā€¦ **

A perfect example of why I usually avoid the romance genreā€¦ *

THE MISTLETOE MISTRESS

Was merely annoying until they committed the cardinal sin of using an apostrophe to pluraliseā€¦ *

Iā€™m surprised this one was used in the anthology, as it is obviously lifted straight from a story arc of upstairs Downstairs, character names and all. No copyright issues? *

HOLLY AND THE BEAST

Apart from the author very obviously not being Scottish (and getting a few things wrong in consequence), this wasnā€™t bad. ***

Didnā€™t like the writing style at all! *

WASSAIL, WAGERS AND WEDDINGS
by S. Cinders
Weird use of words (Iā€™m assuming ā€œbobbleā€ means something different in America than it does here. In the context Iā€™d have expected ā€œbaubleā€), awkward writing and nothing much to keep me interested. *

HIGHLAND YULE
by Sky Puringtonā€©
Despite being a little stilted, it was quite an entertaining read. ***

MARRYING MISS BRIGHT
by Dayna Quince
I liked this one. Good dynamic between the sisters, and the story is a little different from the others ****

KISS ME, MACRAE
by Amy Sandas
A bit cornyā€¦ **

HOLLY AND OLD LACE

Writing doesnā€™t work for me, a 5-y-o that talks like a 2-y-o and liberal borrowing from The Sound of Music *

A Spinster at the Highland Court- Elizabeth Fraser has spent the past ten years of her life serving as a lady in waiting to the queen at the court of King Robert the Bruce. After her father made and subsequently ended four betrothals for her, Elizabeth fears she is bound to be a lonely spinster and chafes at how trapped she feels at court. The king's adoptive brother, Edward, Lord Badenoch, has other ideas, if he can just convince Elizabeth of his sincerity.

I really enjoyed this novella and it's characters were lovely. I'm hoping to come back and review more of this set later on, but based on this story, I'm guessing this will be a fabulous collection.

A box set with 27 short stories. It features some of my must read authors & also some authors who are new to me & seems to be a treasure trove of delights to brighten winter days

HELLā€™S WEDDING BELLS by Annabelle Anders 4 Stars
Lady Lila Breton is the eldest daughter of the Earl of Quimbly, her former fiancĆ© the Earl of Blakely featured in Hell's Belle. When the engagement was broken Quimbly moved his family to the far NW of England. The story opens on Lila's wedding day to a duke she's never met. Hard working Vincent Saint-Pierre is now the Duke of Pemberth since his brother whom he adored died three months earlier leaving him with a seemingly bankrupt duchy. A well written engrossing novella that I devoured in a couple of hours, Vincent & Lila make the most of a bad bargain & as they get to know each other learn to trust & to work together. It isnā€™t a jovial short story but it shows there's hope even in the most trying of situations

THE MISTLETOE MISTRESS by Maddison Michaels 5 Stars
Three notorious rakes make a Christmas wager to seduce the next lady to walk under the mistletoe, each of them pledging a thousand pounds so the winner will win a small fortune. The lady however, is a woman from Michael Drakeā€™s past, whom he has sworn to protect, Holly Jenkins sister of his best friend Edward who died two years ago.
A very accomplished novella & I believe this is the author's first short story though you wouldn't know it as it's so well written. There are strong characters who seemed to come alive. I absolutely loved Michael & Holly & the chemistry between them, their verbal sparring was hugely entertaining & had me laughing out loud. I read this enthralling story in a sitting as it drew me in from the start - well Devlin was involved!! - so how could I not be drawn in.

MISTLETOE KISSES by Elise Marion 5 Stars
Lieutenant Maxwell Davies returned from the Crimean War seriously wounded and broken, now a year later heā€™s well on the way to recovery but has still lost his joie de vivre. Miss Josephine Brewer is an outcast of society due to the scandalous nature of her birth but is invited to the house party along with her step mother & sister to make up the numbers. Beneath the mistletoe during a the house party, the two will succumb to a powerful attraction. I just loved this short story of the two misfits who found each other, it fit the bill of a heart warming Christmas short story in every way. I shuddered at the recounting of some of the events of the Crimean War & sighed at the lovely proposal. It ticked every box for me

MISCHIEF AND MISTLETOE by Stacy Reid 5 Stars
Callisto Middleton her sister & mother Amelia Middleton Viscountess of Danby have been invited to a house party at the estate of their neighbour Robert Wynter the Earl of Deerwood. Robert & Amelia are both widowed & are attracted to each other, Callie plans to help their romance along! However Deerwood's son Graham, Viscount Sherbrooke realises what Callieā€™s about & he intends to stop the mischief. I loved this romance of the son & daughter interfering in their parents romance & falling for each other. Theor banter is entertaining & their attraction sizzles. Another lovey novella that I read in a sitting

A SPINSTER AT THE HIGHLAND COURT by Celeste Barclay 4 Stars
Homesick Edward Bruce, the adopted younger brother of King Robert the Bruce, returns to the Highland royal court only wanting peace for Christmas. When his path once more crosses with the witty, beguiling Lady Elizabeth Fraser, he begins to wish for a different present altogether.
Elizabeth is used as a pawn by her father & has been betrothed four times but each time the betrothal has been broken.
Edward & Elizabeth are attracted to each for m their first sighting at Mass which results in hours of extra praying for lady in waiting Elizabeth. Theyā€™re romance quickly develops but Elizabeth is sent to the highlands by her father, luckily Edward follows & rescues her from a carriage accident. I really liked both Edward & Elizabeth theyā€™re attraction sizzled. a well written well paced read that I read in a sitting. A couple of things were left unanswered but these were only minor so didn't spoil the story or my enjoyment of the book

WEDDED IN WINTER by Scarlett Scott 5 Stars
Beatrix Winter doesn't want to marry a lord but has desired her brotherā€™s loyal right-hand man, Merrick Hart for years but heā€™s never spared her a glance. When her family departs to celebrate Christmas in the country, unintentionally leaving Bea behind, Merrick agrees to escort her. Bea is the one temptation Merrick has always resisted, but a man can only endure so much time alone with the woman he has been secretly longing for.
A love story of unrequited love from both parties, their journey to Emiliaā€™s country house is funny, sexy, heart wrenching & unputdownable. Another lovely story from the author, I'm loving the Winter siblings

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Wrap yourself up in a collection of stories that will warm your heart and entertain for hours!! Each of these authors are some of the best writers of historical romance, so what could be better?

Hell's Wedding Bells/Anabelle Anders
Anything by this author is fabulous so I knew I would adore this story! Two people fated for each other, bound by duty and a little hopelessness, marry to help each other's difficult situations. But the heart knows what it wants and the light comes through as the two find love. Perfect!!

The Mistletoe Mistress/Maddison Michaels
Another of my favorite authors, When a Viscount makes a silly wager with his friends to seduce and kiss the next lady that walks through the door, it backfires when he realizes who she is and becomes frantic to warn them off. But the lady herself isn't quite who she pretends to be and when he does kiss her, the sparks fly. A little of everything, suspense, intrigue and a sparkling chemistry pull this story together for the perfect ending! sigh.

The Christmas Countess/K J Jackson
Love this author's stories and this one was no exception. A story of a lost chance at happiness with misunderstandings and promises made, two people find each other again after several years. A snowstorm that sends her to get aid and who other than her long lost love comes to her rescue. That second chance at love that always warms my heart and brings a smile...

Wedded in Winter/Scarlett Scott
Another of my favorite authors (what can I say, all of these truly are the best!) A poignant story of a sister who ends up with her brother's man of business when her family goes away and she is left with him! Oh, he has been attracted to her forever, but he is not a peer, just a working man. Can they truly ever be together? As the sparks fly, it appears they have little choice. Wonderful addition to Scarlett's series and cannot wait to read more!!

Mischief and Mistletoe/Stacy Reid
Of course Stacy Reid brings an amazing story to this collection. A daughter who decides to play matchmaker at Christmas between her mother and an Earl when they attend his party. With the use of mistletoe and a plan, she knows how she is going to do it! But the Earl's son, wants to stop her when he overhears her and thus begins lively banter between to two and maybe something else? A lovely story that was a lot of fun and left me smiling.

More to come!

MISTLETOE KISSES by Elise Marion.....*****

This was such a bittersweet story involving Maxwell who is a broken man, still suffering the affects of war and Josephine, an outcast in her own family. Maxwell doesn't believe he's good enough for anyone anymore and has nothing to offer but then he meets Josephine who sees the REAL him, beyond his injuries. He sees Josephine for the loving and caring woman she is, not bothered by the scandalous nature of her birth.

The author touches on the horrors of the Crimean war and mentions the poem "The Charge of the Light Brigade". I looked it up and it is indeed a very powerful poem and absolutely heartbreaking.

I thought this story was very well written and I enjoyed it from start to finish! I was given an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

HELL'S WEDDING BELLS by Annabelle Anders......*****

This is the story of Lila and Vincent and how they are coerced into marrying by her wicked father. Neither are very happy about it but both are determined to make it work and it doesn't hurt that there's instant mutual attraction:) Soon their hearts are connected and they work together to save the Dukedom from going to ruins. There are many twists and turns to this story, some which made me gasp. It truly is a story of love and hope and how anything is possible at Christmas time!

I loved this story and definitely recommend it! I was given an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

MISCHIEF AND MISTLETOE by Stacy Reid.....*****

I absolutely adored Callie's character, she's so full of joy, you can't help but smile at her ways! Callie is determined to play matchmaker between her mother and the Earl of Deerwood and when they are invited to the Earl's Christmas house party, she puts her plan in action and included is mistletoe....lots of mistletoe:) What she doesn't expect is for the Earl's son, Graham, to overhear her plans and try to put a stop to them!! I loved their banter and how some of her plans backfire!

I also enjoyed reading the story behind mistletoe, never knew that before!!

A truly delightful story as only Stacy Reid can write!! I was given an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Highlands Yule, Sky Purington

A holiday treasure hunt for love!

5 Stars
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review and purchased the published addition.

Rona met Colmac and his brother when she was a young girl, fast friends they grew up together and fell in love, but their love was not to be. Forces beyond their control came between them and tore them apart, long before they had a chance to discover if the love they had found would last forever.

Broccin also fell in love with Rona, over time she has come to love him as well. Betrothed they plan to marry on Hogmanay until war and illness comes between them, and once again Rona has lost a man that she loves.

As the holiday season approaches once again fate steps in and Rona and Colmac find themselves thrust together. Secrets are revealed, will they accept this second chance to live their happily ever after? Youā€™ll have to read the story to find out.

This was an excellent short story, although there were a few places I wanted to reach into the book and strangle one of the characters!

A hefty and entertaining collection of Christmas romances. I read 1-2 a day over the holiday season and enjoyed the anthology as a whole. The main theme of Christmas weddings tied them all together, but each book had a unique premise, making it a joy to go from one story to the other. My favorites include:
A Wicked Wedding by Laura Trentham
Beautifully Reckless by Virginia Taylor
Deeds Not Words by Ashe Barker
The Winter Bride by Emma V Leech
Mistletoe Kisses by Elise Marion
The Christmas Countess by K.J. Jackson
Mischief and Mistletoe by Stacy Reid
Kidnapped With the Knight by Emily Murdoch
Highland Yule by Sky Purington
Marrying Miss Bright by Dayna Quince
Kiss Me, Macrae by Amy Sandas
A Spinster at the Highland Court by Celeste Barclay
The Holiday Hussy by Merry Farmer
Wedded in Winter by Scarlett Scott

The Winter Bride, A Rogues & Gentlemen Novella
by Emma V. Leech

In keeping with what we've come to expect from a wonderful writer such as Emma V. Leech, A Winter Bride does not disappoint!

Widower Edward Hardy (Ned) may not be a member of the ton - but he is as much a gentleman, if not more, than any of them!

Living in a lonely world surrounded by hard work, Ned has appeared to resign himself to his fate, when our damsel in distress, Miss Grace Honeyfield literally falls in his door. What follows is a dastardly plot with a poignantly sweet, sexy, and slightly racy tale. Could Wedding Bells mingle with Christmas bells for our hero and his lady? One can only hope...... and turn the page. :)

The Winter Bride by Emma V. Leech - definitely a classic goodread! I love the many characters Emma VL has created, I feel like I know them personally, so brilliantly are they pictured. Ned and Grace are no exception. I love that we see a different walk of Regency life in Ned, a farmer, rather than the - so often told - ton stories. Ned is every woman's dream, with echoes of Lady Chatterley's Mellors - your heart just melts at his lovelorn frustration.
The delicate Grace starts out so fragile but her ultimate inner strength ensures she deserves the heroines part.
Even if the 'proposal' feels a little too soon, the journey that brings the two hearts together is joyous.
A wonderful escape from reality!

The winters Bride By Emma Leech. First of all wow! I could not put This novella down.
This novella captures your heart and keeps you enraptured through out. The character development runs smoothly along the story line and you can't help but fall in love with the mains. The scenery is described in such a manner you can't help but envision every aspect of it. Brew your self a hot cup of tea, wrap your self in a warm blanket and be prepared to be transported.

WONDERFUL short stories to enjoy, one of more at a sitting!

Each of the romantic, often sensuous, stories provides delightful Christmas season tales. Each story delivers the reader to a different time, in MANY different locations, including my own home of Wyoming!! Some introduce a bit of intriguing mystery, some danger, often a bit of humor, and ALWAYS romance. I often found myself compelled to read at least three stories in a single sitting!

Got to read Laura Trenthamā€™s selection A Wicked Wedding and adored it. Strong headed women who buck society and the men who love them are a pleasure to be around. Adding in an air of mystery, some holiday spirit, and the historical flair is also lovely. Enjoy!

****SPOILER ALERT ****
THE CHRISTMAS COUNTESS by K.J. Jackson
WOW!!! An amazing story of second chances. A young couple separated by class dared to love one another. They planned to meet and officially declare their love to her father, but fate was not with them. As cruel as it was she made a deal with her father and now had to keep her word and marry a decrepit much older viscount. Six years later Domnall Greyford and Karta Williamson path crossed once more. Karta now a widow lived in the Leviton Dowager house across the field from Kirkmere Abbey. Dom was now Lord Kirkmere, the new Earl of Kirkmere. They were now neighbors. As much as Karta fought her attraction to Dom it was of no use. Dom never got over her and although she broke his heart, he still wanted her. The way Karta remembers six years ago, Dom let her down, did not show up when he ought to have and that forced her into an unwanted marriage. Little did they know there was a particular person behind their separation. Now Karta felt she could not give into Dom for she kept a shameful secret that she felt if he knew he would never look at her again. She could not sustain a second heartbreak. To make matters worse the heir to Viscount Leviton, her stepson George appeared at her door and because of her shameful secret he thought he would be able to have his way with her. He had a wife and children. But he did not care. For the present he only wanted Karta in his bed. Now Dom suspected this but could do nothing about it. After arguing, trying to escape Karta finally told Dom her shameful secret. He could not believe she believed the nonsense, the absurd manipulative shameful blame of how her husband died that the Leviton brothers spread around society. As they spoke of that fateful eve six years ago, they realized who was behind their miscommunication breakup. Shocking as all these revelations were, Karta believed Dom would no longer want her. But she was wrong. What would become of them? What about the rumors and gossip? What about George. A very entertaining story. I loved the epilogue. It was the icing on the cake proving how right Dom and Karta were together. A wonderful loving romantic story of star-crossed lovers.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY by Beverley Oakley
OMG... What a beautiful story of two tender loving soulmates torn apart by rank, wealth and family. The heroine Charity is a character who suffered growing up as the byblow of Gentleman Mr. Edwin Riverdale. Being the daughter of a governess Charity is intelligent and somewhat refined. While her mother worked Charity attended to her ill aunt until her grandmother gave her position to another relative. At the tender age of eighteen Charity was on her own. During her travels to London she received a referral from a kind woman to work as a servant or maid. When Charity arrived at that location, she realized she had been duped and sent to Madame Chambon's House of Assignation. She had no other options but to agree to live there and be beholden to Madame Chambon. Because Charity was a virgin, she was a valuable commodity. Our hero Hugo Adams was the son and grandson of a very wealthy family. His grandfather built his company and it prospered. When Hugo's father, Thomas took over the business it rapidly elevated their status to extremely wealthy. Thomas wanted Hugo to marry into peerage and he would be a happy man. Hugo although conscientious of his duties to his father and their company he was an artist and poet at heart. Thomas decided the time had come for Hugo to be introduced to the delights of the flesh and become a real man at Madame Chambon's. Thomas and the Madame arranged for Hugo's first time to be with Charity for her first time. When they met they fell in love. Hugo's devotion to Charity had been steadfast for two years. Charity was happy with the promise of his love and a future marriage when he became of age for his grandfather's inheritance. Charity knew no other man except for Hugo. She was his exclusive mistress. He had many drawings of her and wrote the most beautiful love letters to her. They were meant to be. Then Hugo's father decided his relationship with Charity had gone on long enough and plotted with his nephew Cyril Adams (who Hugo did not get along with) to stop them from being together. Lawd, the problems that faced Hugo and Charity were insurmountable. They would be separated for two years. Cyril was to go to India for two years with his father Septimus Adams and did not want to. So, he conspired with his Uncle Thomas to have Hugo lose the only independent income he had. Hugo's aunt left him an inheritance so he did not need his father's money. Cyril plied him with drink and gambling. Hugo lost all his money and now had to take Cyril's place and go to India for two years working for the family business. Worst of all Hugo was now financially dependent on his father. Just what Thomas wanted. Hugo promised to send money to cover Charityā€™s room and board with the Madame. They agreed to write to each other faithfully. But the stars did not align for them. Charity got no response to her letters nor had Hugo sent money for months. Charity did not lose hope. She knew Hugo would never put her in dire straits. There had to be a reason. Charity was favored by the Madame and was given a courtesy extension because she knew how much Hugo loved Charity. But the Madame advised Charity that time was running out. Charity did not know what to do. When searching for new accommodations and a job she ran into Cyril. At first Cyril was tempted by Charity but she would not relent to him. Charity carried Hugo's pictures and prior letters with her always and lost them after her encounter with Cyril. Who would have thought the positive things would be put into motion from those lost pictures and letters. This is a must read. It is full of tender loving emotions that are easy to relate to. What Hugo and Charity had to deal with growing up were realistic. Even Cyril's anger and resentment were justifiable. Do not pass this up. You will not be disappointed.

A SPINSTER AT THE HIGHLAND COURT by Celeste Barclay
When I got to the finish, I did not want the tale to end. I loved this story. A very romantic, steamy, sexy romance. If you have read Celeste Barclay's previous books you will find some of the same characters overflowing into this. The main characters are wonderfully written. Very mature, realistic, brave, forthright, compassionate, caring and loving. Two people, Elizabeth and Edward, who found each other against the wishes of her parents fought to be together. When her father sent her away from Edward, her coach overturned and the guard and the driver were killed. When Edward knew where she was going, he followed. Thank goodness he did or Elizabeth would have frozen to death. They both thought that maybe the crack of the wheel may have been intentional. But it did not good to dwell on it. Before they reached the inn, Edward would not go in without Elizabeth being his wife. They hand fasted. I quote their beautiful vows: Edward: ā€œI vow to give you the first cut of my meat, the first sip of my wine, from this day it shall only your name I cry out in the night and into your eyes that I smile each morning; I shall be a shield for you back as you are for mine, nor shall a grievous word be spoken about us, for our marriage is sacred between us and no stranger shall hear my grievance. Above and beyond this, I will cherish and honor you through this life and into the next. I plight thee my troth.ā€ Elizabeth: ā€œYou cannot possess me for I belong to myself, but while we both wish it, I give you that which is mine to give. You cannot command me, for I am a free person. But I shall serve you in those ways you require, and the honeycomb will taste sweeter coming from my hand. I plight thee my troth.ā€ Isn't that so romantic. When they finally returned to court her father had a conniption. He failed to part them and they were married Christmas. HEA... (sigh, swoon) This is a lovely story and I highly recommend it.

WEDDED IN WINTER by Scarlett Scott
A charming, romantic, enjoyable romance. I loved the lead female character Beatrix/Bea Winter. She was the youngest of the five Winter sisters. At eighteen Bea is adventurous, a non-conformist, a zeal to help the unfortunate and held an unrequited love for her eldest brother's Devereaux/Dev Winter, most trusted right-hand man Merrick Hart. When Bea came into the fullness of her womanhood, Merrick was not immune to her. At twenty-eight he felt she was too young for him and her brother Dev would never approve the match. I admire Merrick despite what he suffered as a youth, when Dev took him under his wing, he had striven to never disappoint him. Efficient, intelligent, trustworthy, mature and responsible he turned out to be a man to proud of. When fate threw Bea and him together in an isolated situation sparks flew and emotional struggles ruled each day they were alone together. My esteem and respect for Bea grew as she broke rules of propriety, pushed limits and practically drove Merrick sexually insane. She is mature. She knows what she wants out of life, who she wants in her life, what matters and what doesn't. She is confident in her own skin. Merrick on the other hand did not want to jeopardize a decade of dedicated service to Dev. His job was all he had, what he enjoyed, what he was good at. He knew if he pursued Bea he would be fired and left with nothing. Through everything Bea was the calm rational voice of reason. I would not call her a flirt, but the way she tried to seduce Merrick, she left it all in his control. She did not throw herself at him. All she did was present herself on a silver platter waiting for him to decide whether to sup or not. She did not use seductive words. She was herself and I liked that about her. Merrick has always treated Bea with disregard to hide his true feeling. But in the end, he could not deny what he felt for her. When Bea's brother Dev bursts into their rented room at the inn, all heck breaks loose. Dev was known for his anger and decisive action. His mind was made up and no one or nothing would change it. What does that mean for Bea and Merrick? You'll have to read the exciting conclusion to find out. An excellent read.

HELL'S WEDDING BELLS BY ANNABELLE ANDERS - I loved this romantic tale of misunderstandings, loss of love, second chances & wonderful characters, including the loyal Bloodhound, Dog. The most handsome, Vincent Saint Pierre has recently come in to title as the Duke of Pemberth after the death of his brother. He never expected he would have to learn to be an duke nor did he expect the run down estate & the ton of debt left for him to face. But, even worse, he must accept the fiance his brother was to marry, a promise his brother had made Lord Quimbly, the lady's father.

Lady Lila Breton is the eldest daughter of a less than savory Earl of Quimbly. She has been ruined in the eyes of society because of a broken betrothal & now her father as found a way to marry her to an duke new to his title & no one knows. Lila knows she will have to obey her father but she wants to get her little sister away from their father. Her only hope is the gentleman she marrying will be kind & will allow her to bring her sister to stay with them.

Lila & Vincent marry as soon as the meet for the first time & leave immediately for his northern England estate. The journey is such a romantic one that goes from stranger to a loving couple. Annabelle Anders gives us a heartwarming holiday tale to make you smile. I highly recommend this read to all historical romance readers - it will not disappoint!

WEDDED IN WINTER BY SCARLETT SCOTT - The Wicked Winters are one of the richest families in all of England. Each of the 6 siblings was left a fortune of their own & oldest & only son, Devereaux Winter was in charge of caring for the assets & investing everyone's fortune. His five younger sisters were all educated & refined young women & the only thing Dev wants for them is to marry a noble man so they will be accepted in society.

The youngest sibling is Beatrix "Bea" Winter, she is 18 yrs. old & she desires becoming a midwife. Unfortunately, her brother caught her sneaking out to aid a doctor & he forbids her from assisting the doctor in the future. They are leaving to spend the Christmas holiday at their country estate & he will find noble men for his sisters to marry among the guests he has invited. midwife.

Merrick Hart is Dev's right hand man & has been working for the Winter's for a few years. Dev trusts him, knows he is honorable & has become a friend too. Merrick is handsome, kind & has been attracted to Bea Winter since she blossomed & became a young woman - but he would never let anyone know his feelings. The Winter's left London to celebrate Christmas in the country, the servants were given time off to be with their families & Merrick stayed behind to watch the London townhouse. Alone, at last to read & drink some of Dev's liquor, until Miss Beatrix Winter comes in the front door in the wee hour of the morning, with blood all over the front of her gown. Why isn't she with her family & what has happened to her?

Merrick & Bea's adventure together begins & what a fun, romantic, spicy time they have & even a Christmas Eve day wedding. Scarlett Scott is a genius when it comes to creating characters that just pull your heartstrings & Merrick & Bea did just that for me - a wonderful story.

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

THE CHRISTMAS COUNTESS BY K.J. JACKSON - This was a lovely second chance romance & I loved both Domnall Greyford, Earl of Kirkmere & Karta Williamson (Lady Leviton). Dom & Karta had fallen in love over 6 year ago & they had planned a future together, even though Karta's father was against Dom & forbid Karta to see him. Misunderstandings, no shows for a ball & an agreement Karta made with her father, found her married to a Viscount, 24 years her senior & swept off to his estate leaving Dom thinking she had married for a title & given up all they had planned. Six years later Dom unknowingly rescues Karta from a snow storm & takes her back to Kirkmere.

Dom & Karta's journey to healing, forgiving & telling truths begin after Dom finds she is now a widow. The story is heartwarming & the couple are a perfect match - the epilogue was wonderful & I had to wipe a few happy tears. I highly recommend this entertaining holiday story.

I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.

MISCHIEF & MISTLETOE BY STACY REID - What a heartwarming holiday romance that left you happy & smiling & wanting to celebrate Christmas (and mistletoe, of course).

Callie had a first season but it was cut short when her father passed away & after the mourning period & having to give up their house for their cousin & new heir; there wasn't funds for another season. Now Callie has set her mind to help match her mother toward an earl her mother has shown feelings toward. Her mother, sister & Callie receive an invitation to a house party at Christmastime to Robert Wynter, Earl of Deerwood's home & this will be Callie's chance to help nature along & get her mother some happiness as the earl has shown interest in her mother over the last few months. However, the earl's son, Graham Wynter, Viscount Sherbrooke, steps in & tries to stop Callie's innocent matchmaking attempts. The fireworks explode between them.

Can Graham & Callie get past their differences? Will Callie's mother, Amelia & Robert find their way to on another? I highly recommend this story & it will put you in the Christmas spirit!

I have read four of the books in this boxset and my review applies to them, as that is what I am familiar with:

The Christmas Countess by KJ Jackson: A second chances romance, but one with so much unfinished business and pain, that one wants to weep for the main characters. On a quest to find a doctor for her desperately ill maid and companion, Karta braves the snow, ice and wind to reach Kirkmere Abbey, only the elements are far stronger than she is. Taking up his inheritance at the Abbey, Domnall Greyford has his deerhound to thank for dragging him out into the snow again after a difficult and tiring journey. At the hound's insistence, he follows the yips and barks, until he comes upon Karta's freezing body in the snow. Their meeting after a number of years makes this a difficult time as they tentatively dance around the reasons for their parting and recognise the pull of attraction between them. A bittersweet romance that brings healing and reconciliation.

A Wicked Wedding by Laura Trentham: Cole, Earl of Linley and Miss Diana Gramling grew up as children together and have always been good friends, but when an accidental discovery reveals that smuggling is taking place on their shoreline, they individually investigate the matter, leading to mishaps and misadventures. Forced into extreme circ*mstances, the feelings that they have had for one another come to the fore and a passionate encounter ensues. This short novelle is well written, exciting and romantic.

Kidnapped with a Knight by Emily Murdoch: An unusual Christmas romance, the plot of this story brings two people from opposite sides of the great divide together. Edmund Northmere was disinherited after he stood up to his cruel father and is living by means of his gambling skills. Molly Kimble, on the other hand, has grown up in a family of thieves and would give anything to be free of her brothers. Using Molly, her brothers kidnap the young lord, not realising that there isn't anyone willing to pay his ransom. Edmund and Molly are trapped together on Christmas Day, resulting in two people laying their souls bare and discovering an attraction they never thought possible. The story is entertaining and slightly suspenseful, especially once Edmund realises that Molly is related to his kidnappers.

The Angel of an Astronomer by Linda Rae Sande: On her way to London, Lady Angelica discovers from her twin brother that she is being set up by her meddling father to marry a man she has never met. Reluctantly she agrees with her brother to host a dinner party where she will meet him and make her decision. On the first night in London, what she thought was a peeping tom, has her marching next door to their new neighbour to give him a tongue lashing. Sir Benjamin Fulton is delighted with his new telescope and as he surveys the planets in his new observatory, he is surprised by the sharp tongue of a beautiful woman accusing him of nefarious deeds. Inadvertently he introduces himself by his given name and leads Angelica to believe that he is without a title. A delightful romance ensues as the couple get to know each other through the lens of a telescope, but unfortunately at some point, the truth has to be told.

I received copies of the above novelettes as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Once Upon a Christmas Wedding
An anthology of stories

I always enjoy a story by Lady Anders and this one was no different. Having said this, I was taken by surprise by all the drama and subterfuge this story entailed, especially for a Christmas love story. Nonetheless, this story brings Lady Lila Catherine Breton to a place of peace, safety, happiness and love in her life. Not to mention one of belonging and purpose, as she'd been previously betrothed to Lord Marcus Roberts, Earl of Blakely. Being jilted by him only brought her despair and pain, only not the despair and pain one would think of.

Lord Quimbly has made a deal with Lord Vincent Sebastian Lucifer Saint-Pierre, Duke of Pemberth to marry Lila. Leaving behind her mother and younger sister, Arianna was hard for Lila. She feared for her sister's safety, as she was not there to protect her and take the brunt of their father's brutality and fury. But leave to become the duch*ess of Pemberth, she must. In lies, the story of how two lost souls begin to take a leap of faith and trust one another. Yes, two, as Lord Pemberth has his own tragedy and loss to overcome. While learning to love and trust each other, Lady Lila begins to unravel the truth behind Lord Pemberth's loss. What Lady Lila discovers, will it bring peace to Lord Pemberth, as well as, the ability to understand his own loss? And finally, will Lila also be able to provide for her sister's safety by bringing her to Pemberth to live?

I sure do pray that Lady Anders decides to give Lady Arianna Breton her own story to continue the saga of the two sisters. After-all, one does not live through such brutish and ruthless behavior by a parent, without a few emotional scars to overcome.

I was given an ARC copy of this story in exchange for my most humble opinion. I do so voluntarily.

Wedded in Winter, by Scarlett Scott
šŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸšŸŒŸ

My first read by Ms. Scarlett Scott. And oh I how enjoyed it immensely! This novel brought the reader an abundance of characterization, family dynamics, and a plot that's worthy of a Christmas miracle.

Beatrix Winters, the youngest sister of the Winters clan has been left behind at Dudley House in London, as her sisters, brother and sister in-law have left for the country home, Abingdon Hall in Oxfordshire. Was she left behind on purpose or was it of her own making? The only person left at the London home with Beatrix was her brother's right hand man, Mr. Merrick Hart. What are the two to do, when Merrick discovers that Miss Winters carries not one, but two secrets and refuses to divulge what they are? Keep in mind, he carries a secret of his own; but, must put it aside, as he must see to the safe return of Miss Winter into her brother's arms. In lies the tale of a journey that is assured to have these two strong-minded and stubborn individuals at each other's neck. But wait, it's Christmastime and miracles do happen! Read this enchanting story to discover for yourself just what the Christmas miracle will be. I did and I was so happy I did.

Merry Christmas! ā¤šŸŽ„šŸ’š

I never want to read about a wedding on Christmas ever again.

I am so so so glad I am FINALLY done with this. The relief! While I actually enjoyed more of the stories than I expected, this went downhill when I read the whole second half over the last week.

THINGS I LEARNED FROM THIS ANTHOLOGY (in categories cause I'm just that sick of everything)
Plot & character things
- All men speak in a rich baritone
- A woman's hair is always long and usually curly
- Every blonde woman is an angel (twice the angel if her hair is also blonde & curly)
- Scotsmen are always rugged and we'd forget they're Scottish if they didn't call the heroine "lassie" in at least every second sentence
- Epilogues only exist to show us that the heroine is pregnant
- Isn't it funny to call this heroine in Christmas romance anthology Holly? So original!

Sex things
- "It's called a co*ck."
- There's always oral sex before the virgin is deflowered (or "claimed", as most stories put it. By his rod.)
- "What was that?!" - "It's called an org*sm."

Actual serious criticism
- People of color didn't exist in 19th century England, not even as servants (except for that one story)
- Neither did queer people
- Beta readers for spelling and grammar? We don't need them cause we're just THAT good. 99% of these mistakes were things spellcheck should've picked up on, what are you even doing?!
- Apparently spanking is so sexy that there's no need to distinguish it from abuse. Hard disagree.

INDIVIDUAL RATINGS (to be taken with a grain of salt, especially those at the beginning - when I wasn't sick of the premise yet - and those at the end, when I was too sick of the premise. I've also got an update with a mini review after every single story for you to enjoy...)

1. WASSAILS, WAGERS, and WEDDINGS by S. Cinders
I was lucky enough to be offered a free copy of Wassails, Wagers, and Weddings by S. Cinders and immediately wanted to voluntarily give my review. If this is any indication of what to expect with the rest of the stories in this anthology, then by all means, sign me up.
I hate to say this, but it's been longer than I care to admit, to reading a book that wasn't sexually explicit in it's telling. THIS was such a book. Complete with a second chance romance, a strong heroine, and a hero who had to finally admit his mistakes because he's fallen in love and THEN hope she still wanted him. This was such a fun, romantic story-line with characters containing personalities that will simultaneously melt your heart and activate your sense of humor. What a wonderful Christmas story!

2. BEAUTIFULLY RECKLESS by VIRGINIA TAYLOR
What an absolutely heartwarming story! This is the first book by Virginia Taylor I've read so had absolutely no idea what to expect from her writing. I have to say, I'm so pleased. She's given us characters with personality traits that are relatable, a world gone by we can get lost in, and a plot that was just fun to follow. I was privileged to receive a copy of this book and am honored to give my honest and voluntary review. Once again, if this is another example of what to expect in this anthology it should be outstanding all the way around.

3. MISTLETOE KISSES by ELISE MARION
I love reading Elise Marion's books and this one is no exception. Max is the second son of an Earl and was a complete and total rake before his father bought him a commission in the military to make a man out of him. Unfortunately for Max, shortly after acquiring the commission he was pulled into a war which left him heavily wounded. Josephine is the product of a romance that left her illegitimate. When her father was in an accident that left him dying, he added a stipulation to his will. Josephine was to be raised with his legitimate daughter, in their home, with every advantage his daughter had until she was twenty-one. At that time, she was to be given an inheritance if she hadn't married before then and the money be used for her dowry. It was a loving and protective deed until you looked deeper. His widow did not want her husband's mulatto child in her home and resented every breath the child took. This one broke my heart in places and brought tears but there was so much joy as well. This one actually brought the meaning of Christmas miracles to my heart. I loved it!

As I read more of the stories, I will update the review for the entire anthology, but for now, I'm all in.

This Collection of Christmas Stories has 27 stories by different authors. Below you will find a review of the 4 books I have read so far.

Wedded in Winter by Scarlett Scott is a continuation of the Winter family, but you do not have to read the other Winter stories to enjoy this book. Bea is the youngest sibling, the baby of the family. Merrick is employed by Beaā€™s brother, his right-hand man. Merrick tries to keep a distance between him and Bea, he has been fighting his feelings for 2 years for her because he works for her over protective brother and he feels he is too old and not right for her. Circ*mstances happen which causes Bea to be left alone with only Merrick to watch her and bring her to her family. Bea and Merrick are meant for each other, and this is their story of them finally letting their feelings grow, it is a wonderful love story written so good and smooth, I read this story in one setting.

Hells Wedding Bells by Annabelle Anders is a story about Lila and Vincent who had an arranged marriage. Lila wanted to get away from her evil father, and Vincent married her to pay off a gambling debt his brother incurred to Lilaā€™s father. This story is about Lila and Vincent getting to know each other, physically and mentally with an evil father thrown in. Enjoyable read.

The Holiday Hussy by Merry Farmer was so good, I had to finish this book without stopping. It is about Alice and Fabian. Aliceā€™s father is forcing Alice to marry a man not of her choosing, Fabian. Fabian liked Alice when he meet her in the summer and wanted to marry her. Because Aliceā€™s father gets involved there are problems in their relationship. How Fabian and Alice work thru their difficulties to their happy ever after is interesting. You will definitely enjoy this book.

The Mistletoe Mistress by Maddison Michaels, had me falling in love with the people in this book. I just loved Michael and Holly, I loved Michaelā€™s friends and I loved Holly sisters. I just loved this whole story. Maddison Michaels is a new author to me, this is the first time I have read anything by her, but it will not be the last. This is one of the main reasons I like to read a collection of stories by different authors because you sometimes find a new author and now, they are on your favorite author list.

If these 4 books I have read in the Once Upon A Christmas Wedding collection is any indication of the rest of the books in this collection, I am definitely going to order this as soon as it comes out.

I received a free book from the 4 Authors, and I have given an honest review.

Instead of my usual format for reviews I'm just going to state what books I enjoyed and what books I didn't like. If there is a book I didn't mention its probably just OK.
Books I enjoyed
The Russian Betrothal by Elsa Holland
Holly and the Beast by Annabel Joseph
Mistletoe Kisses by Elise Marion
The Holiday Hussy by Merry Farmer - side note the sex scenes in this were eye opening from an historical romance perspective.
Wedded in Winter by Scarlett Scott

Books I didn't enjoy
A Wicked Wedding by Laura Trentham
Deeds Not Words by Ashe Barker
Mischief and Mistletoe by Stacy Reid
Christmas Charity by Beverley Oakley
Kiss Me, Macrae by Amy Sandas
December Debauchery by Em Brown

I think I have a few more that I would class as "OK" and not good or bad. There are a few more that I would say are just poor but not so bad I'd give them lower than 3 stars. The ones I've listed above are stories I'd 2 star and lower. The ones I liked are ones I'd probably try and find other books by the authors listed/ are linked to series I'd probably be interested in. Also I can't say for sure why I hated the books above because I've read this over 10 days(ish) and I've forgotten my reasonings but some are noted by myself as "NOPE" so its safe to say I wasn't a fan. Otherwise I think some are just the way they are written, old world language/ reading the scottish ones with them writing exactly how they would have spoken or rather do speak just makes it difficult for me personally to read. I'm sure if you're scottish it doesn't matter to you, I just don't enjoy that. I don't mind wee or bairn because they don't necessarily compromise the writing and flow of reading but it was just like "ye" and "och" just made it annoying to try and read. Those books for example took longer.

The ones at the top; the ones I liked were good for various reasons. One being the romance was nice, the stories were good and it was less beating down on women. I understand back in the day of 1800 what ever, women weren't classed as being able to make decisions for themselves and while that is accurate I personally don't like reading books where the woman is weak and feeble and won't stick up for herself. Don't get me wrong if these weren't historical romances they wouldn't past muster for modern romances that I think have a strong female character but they're stronger than the other historical romances I've read and thus I enjoyed them.
