Which of the following colors is the constant or memory wire on an aftermarket radio wiring harness? ›

A vast number of single-DIN (2" tall) and double-DIN (4" tall) stereos will fit right in, with the help of dash kits that are designed specifically for your truck. The single-DIN fits into your existing dash, while the double-DIN kit is actually a replacement dash panel.

The speaker sizes on the 2002 Chevy Silverado vary depending on which door the speaker is meant to go into. When you find one that shows approximately 12V, you have found the constant 12V wire, also known as the memory wire. It's yellow in most aftermarket head units.

Yellow: Constant 12V (Battery): This wire provides constant power to the stereo, even when the car is off. It's typically used to maintain memory settings. Red: Accessory: This wire provides power only when the car's ignition is turned on (accessory mode or radio mode).

If your car and stereo have the typical setup, the yellow wire goes to constant power to maintain the clock and presets etc. If the vehicle has its own built-in clock, I tend to run to that rather than the battery, because it's closer.
