What wire powers the radio? ›

Here are the common stereo wire colors and their meanings: Constant Power (Yellow): Provides continuous power to the stereo, even when the car is off, to maintain memory settings. Switched Power (Red): Supplies power to the stereo only when the car's ignition is on (accessory or radio position).

The yellow: The positive (+), which supplies a constant 12V memory. The red: The positive (+) is the accessory wire. The orange wire with white stripes- In charge of illumination or dimmer.

The factory speakers in the front doors are closest in size to an aftermarket 6-3/4" speaker, but you'll need an adapter plate to install any speaker in there. The front doors will accept several very common speaker sizes, including 6-3/4", 6-1/2", 5-1/4", and the adapter plates make for an easy installation.

The code typically used by licensed GM dealers is 106010. Knowing this code will save you the trouble of going to a dealership to have the radio unlocked.

Set your multimeter to the appropriate scale, connect the ground lead to a known good ground, and touch the other lead to each wire in the speaker wire.
